Hacky Sack Club

Blowdryers and Characterization

Day 2 of my Hackey Sack Club humiliation. Today I’ll cut right to the video, with a brief footnote to mention how impressed I am with the video program for capturing such a . . . shall we say expressive  moment as the stand-by picture. Yoinks.

My husband informed me that they just did a poll or something on the number of blowdryer users in the world. So here’s my deep question: Do you use a blowdryer? Does your main character? (I had to tie this in to writing somehow!)

I’m back!

April was a weird month for me in that it seemed to last forever (a la my husband’s job), yet at the same time went by in a flash (a la my goals). I wasn’t a total stranger to the blogosphere (thanks Ruth!), but I wasn’t exactly a close friend either. I think acquaintance is the word. 😉

As for my writing challenge with the fabulous Leigh Moore (1K of writing a day), I missed 5 times. Five!!! So that means I will be embarrassing myself a la video for the Hacky Sack Club pretty much most of this month. Hopefully a la your viewing pleasure. (“A la” is my pet phrase of the day.)

Like Leigh, I can’t decide if I’m more embarrassed by that expression on my face at the first, or by my horrible accent. Anyway, enough chatter. First installment, here:

So now that I’m back, did I miss anyone’s happy news? I’d love to hear your shoutouts for yourself or your friends. 🙂

Hacky Sack Club Inductee: Melissa Sarno

I know I don’t usually post on Wednesdays, but after seeing Melissa’s deliciously fabulous video, I couldn’t resist.  Melissa, of This Too . . ., not only hacky sacks, but she speaks Hindi while doing it!

Perhaps that doesn’t sound impressive to you native speakers of Hindi out there, but to us simple folk who are native English speakers, it is truly an accomplishment. And I feel it’s relevent to mention that the mere act of speaking while trying to kick a little bag full of bean is a talent in and of itself . . . I certainly didn’t attempt it on my video.

Congrats Melissa! Welcome to the Hacky Sack Club!

And if anyone else wants to join, click here for the deets.

So yay! Amy and I couldn’t be more proud. Our Hacky Sack Club numbers are slowly growing.

Leigh over at That’s Write, one of my favorite bloggers, has posted her humiliation video, showing off her mad juggling skillz.

Cross my heart and hope to die, I DID NOT coerce her or blackmail her in any way. Seriously.

And the Wall of Shame Fame is finally up. Look up that to that brand-spankin-new tab between “Books” and “Contact Me.” I know you want to be on it! Rules for joining are here. Simple version? Post a vlog of any random skill of yours and e-mail us to let us know it’s up. Easy as pie.

So anyone else out there ready to join? We still have hacky sacks waiting for good homes!

P.S. Wanted to make a quick mention of a contest over at The Ron Empire Wants You. She’s piggy backing onto Ellen Oh’s Post titled “Why the Pretty White Girl YA Cover Book Trend Needs to End.” A worthy cause that I think deserves some attention.

Revisions Aren’t Always Painful

Hah! You thought I meant writing, didn’t you?

Now you’ve seen the infamous videos (and if not, they’re >>here<< and >>here<<), and we’ve read your comments, Amy and I wanted to make some revisions to the Hacky Sack Club official rules.

The wonderful Laurel had the brilliant idea of expanding this club beyond just hacky sacks. SO . . .

  1. Any crazy talent (or non-talent) gets you into the club! Just post a video (or picture) of yourself doing it. Making balloon animals, standing on your head, using chop sticks, . . . the possibilities are endless, and they’ll all get you into our exclusive club.
  2. Let us know when you post! E-mail the link to me (see that “Contact Me” tab up there?) or Amy when it’s up so we can include you in our hall of shame, ahem, FAME. And be sure to include a snail mail address so we can send you a hacky sack. We’re serious, here!
  3. We will send you a hacky sack immediately if you want to try it (which we whole-heartedly encourage), but don’t have one. Just send either of us your address and we’ll send you a hacky sack (as long as supplies last) post haste so you can make a video. Brilliant, I know!
In short, we will keep our quirky name, but we’ll all KNOW that the club goes beyond just the title. Fitting, no? So please, grab the button, come enjoy a little silliness with us, and let’s break some boundaries! (Just no breaking anything else like toes or something.)
And please, don’t make us beg. Haven’t we embarrassed ourselves enough?!
