I know I don’t usually post on Fridays, nor do I often join in the blogfests, but I like the spirit of this one, so I decided to jump in with two feet. Matthew MacNish and Alex J. Cavenaugh are hosting the Pay It Forward Blogfest today. You can click on their names to find the LONG list of blogs participating.
The idea is to share three under-the-radar blogs that I love and then visit all the blogs everyone else mentions. Okay, ALL might be impossible, but there we are.
And before I mention my three, just a quick note to say I would choose you all if I could! *waves and smiles to everyone reading this*
First is my long-time crit partner Victoria Dixon at The Ron Empire Wants You! She focuses on writing with Asian settings, which (even though I don’t use them) I think is very interesting. Plus, she’s a writer of gorgeous prose. Her work always makes me jealous. 😉
Second is Saumya at Left and Write Brained. She is fun and bubbly and I always leave her blog smiling. You should visit her.
And finally, Abby at Something to Write About. I found her through the Platform-building Campaign and just adore her posts. Personality exudes from her writing, plus I learn stuff. Like how to put polls directly in your post. (Yeah, okay, I’m slow.) Point is, she has a great blog!
So who would you recommend?
P.S. Click >>here<< to enter for a chance to win The Liar Society. You have through 16 September!
Shelli, over at Market My Words, is having a Pay-It-Forward Contest. One of the requirements to enter is that you recognize in a blog post (or on Facebook) someone who has helped you in some way.
I love the idea of paying it forward, and I am an advocate of giving thanks, so I am excited to share. And I didn’t have to think long about who I wanted to thank.
Back when I was first introduced to the writing blogosphere by my fabulous CP Vicki, before I even kept a writing blog, I read a post about a writing contest over at Laurel’s Leaves. It was her Eleventy-one Celebration Writing Contest where she wanted a scene showing negotiation and persuasion.
I decided to enter, and lo and behold, I won! I was astonished . . . and even more astonished when she gave the break down on her blog of why she chose my piece.
I can’t express what it meant to me to have a complete stranger (at the time) say such kind things about my writing. It was just what I needed to hear right then. It boosted my confidence, and it was the catalyst that led to my starting a writing blog and to the drive to finally finish editing my book.
I just wanted to tell Laurel thank you for your contest and for your kind words. It all meant much more to me than I’m sure you could have guessed.
THANK YOU!
And in the spirit of thanks, feel free to give a shout out to someone who influenced your life for the better. 🙂
So Friday, I got this amazing wonderful surprise. Here’s the story:
A week ago, B. Miller started this fabulous Pay It Forward Giveaway (that I so totally wish I had come up with). Go check it out if you haven’t heard about it.
ANYWAY, Courtney, the Southern Princess, as a break-off from that, honored me with a Pay It Forward post. She listed 3 bloggers she would love to hang out with in a non-virtual way, and I was one of them! For those of you who haven’t read my profile, she and I are fellow princesses after all. And royalty must stick together what with the paparazzi and everything. But what a lift in my day. So much more than honored. *insert cheesy grin.*
So I wanted to spread the love and choose three people that I would love to spend time with in a non-virtual way. Normally, I would list you all, but that would be a long post that no one would finish reading, so here we go with three:
Jenny Matlock: I have been rolling at her garage sale posts, and her big heart just shines through. Though we’ve never met, I wanted to pull up a lawn chair, pour a tall glass of lemonade with one of those little umbrellas in it, and chat about all the interesting people who stopped in. And she refers to her husband as Mr. Jenny. How can you not want to meet someone who does that?
Lydia Kang at The Word is My Oyster: When I found out she’s an Internal Medicine Doctor, I felt that instant she-knows-what-I’m-going-through connection because my husband is on his first year of his Internal Medicine Residency. She does this fabulous post called Medical Mondays, and her posts are always thought-provoking and fun. I’m never disappointed when I visit her blog. Plus, she’s working on the secret to getting 25 hours out of a day. I so intend to be around when she learns it as I’m sure she will!
Vicki Dixon at Ron Empress: Okay, maybe I’m cheating a little on this one because we have met before, but she is that wonderful. First, her writing is beautiful. Like, I’m-green-with-jealousy-because-my-writing-will-never-be-that-beautiful beautiful. Next, I always hear about the coolest contests from her. And finally, It’s from her encouragement that I started a blog at all. She has been a huge support to me in this endeavor we’re on. Go visit!
So what catches your attention on a blog and makes you want to go back? What makes you feel connected to a blogger you’ve never met?
