Query and Thanks

Oct 22, 2010 Uncategorized 20 comments

I’m getting ready to query. I’ve been polishing my letter, and after some fairly major changes (thanks to an amazing critique by Carrie Harris), I was wanting some feedback.

Disgruntled Bear happened to be offering query critiques last week, and I snuck mine in just in time. I wanted to thank her for all the time she’s generously giving to do this. VERY nice of her! If you’re curious or feeling generous with your time, I’d love to hear what you think. My critiqued query is here. πŸ™‚

Also, I recently won an Animal Encyclopedia from Connie Arnold

She has a new book coming out called Animal Sound Mix-up. I wanted to thank her for the beautiful book I received in the mail yesterday. Can’t wait to read it with my kids. πŸ™‚

Hope you all have a great weekend!

My query's changed so many times, I hardly recognize it anymore. Hopefully that's a good thing.:D

  2. PS who's the author of the book?

I love your query! The story and voice are very clearly presented – and it sounds like a book I really want to read, something fresh and original.

The only thing I wonder about is, maybe the book itself is a little long? I think it's harder as a debut novelist to sell a book over 100k, and that's especially long for a YA novel. Of course, there are longer YA novels out there and doing wonderfully – it all depends on whether there's extra in your novel that can be trimmed down or if it's all essential. Just a thought!
