This vs. That: Star Wars vs. Star Trek

Jun 23, 2011 Uncategorized 18 comments

I’m a little leary of a backlash by enraged fans after posting the results of this one, but since I’m a risk taker, I’ll go for it.

First though, I have to admit, the voting surprised me this time around. And apparently, this is a burning question to many folks out there in cyberspace. It was like a double contest: first in the voting, and second in the searches used to find the post. Did they search using STAR WARS vs. Star Trek, or STAR TREK vs. Star Wars?

Okay, I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. Here are the results:

Total votes: 21

Star Wars: 9 votes; 43%
Star Trek: 6 votes; 29%
Neither: 3 votes; 14%
Impossible to choose: 2 votes; 9%
Need more info: 1 vote; 5%

And, because I know you’re all dying to know, here’s the second unofficial contest from the searches:
Star Wars vs. Star Trek: 9
Star Trek vs. Star Wars: 9

Yup, exactly equal as of the writing of this post. Fascinating.

[UPDATE: Star Trek surged into the lead with 12 searches as of this morning!]

Perhaps my fandom totally blinded me on this one, but I really thought Star Wars would be the obvious choice (except, of course for you, Vicki!). So yes, I voted Star Wars. Lets just say that even my two-year old knows who Anakin is, and insists on finding a Star Wars book to check out of the library whenever we go. And she’s a girl. (Not that that SHOULD have anything to do with it, but *ahem* there we are).

So, now that I’ve enraged a bunch of people (I’m sure), on to the next debate:

Beach
vs.
Mountains

Oh there is no contest with this one, you might as well announce the winner now … It's the beach! A little seaside cottage, the salt air, the sunsets, the walks on the sand, and the list goes on …

  2. I feel like a complete mutant saying this, but I don't like the beach. Sunburn, sand in your swimsuit, saltwater making your hair all nasty. We spent two days at the Jersey shore last week, and that was enough beach for me for a few years.

I'd rather take a long hike on a cool, wooded path, hear birds sing, and take in lovely vistas from a mountain top. Canoe a little. Roast marshmallows over a fire. Catch fireflies. Swim in a freshwater lake or take a lazy tube ride down a river.

  3. Sangu says:

I would have gone with Star Wars!

Ah, the beach. The weather's not been great here lately so I've been craving a hot, gorgeous beach holiday.

  4. for me, it's always been WARS in a landslide, but then star trek TNG came around, which i consider the greatest tv series of all time, so the race has gotten closer…

  5. I still kinda want to go with Stargate. I love both series, but I have more fun watching Stargate SG-1. ๐Ÿ™‚
As for this new question… hmm… well. I love both? Okay, I'll have to say beach, because I love the ocean. But mountains are awesome too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. If you ever get a chance to drive or walk Glen Canyon Rd, along a creek from Scotts Valley to Santa Cruz in the Santa Cruz Mountains, witnessing the sun streaming through the canopy and across the ferns to the bubbling water, experiencing the refreshing breezes from the dark shadows that carry smells of moss and the deep woods, and listening to the trees and forest animals carry on with their daily activities, you will never again be able to think any place more beautiful.

Laurel, I share your thoughts on both the beach and the mountains.

    Mountains for me!

  7. I love both but I have to choose mountains! I love the challenge of climbing to the top. I love trees. I love to walk and explore in all seasons.

  8. How did I miss out on that vote? Well anyway it wouldn't have helped, I would have been the third "impossible to choose."

Okay, I live in the mountains, so I have to give that my vote; but after seeing that picture, a beach WITH mountains is definitely the ultimate!

  9. MikeS says:

Without thinking, I might have answered beach, but a closer look and also reading some of the replies of others, I think mountain is really more my style. Who needs all that sand and sun burn. The ocean is a complete mystery to me. Give me a mountain and I'm happy.

  10. Carol Riggs says:

Ha, I would've said Star Wars. ;o) And to this question: THE BEACH. Mountains are lovely, but watching the ocean come in and out onto the shore like a breathing thing is infinite, and infinitely better. ;o)

  11. Beth says:

    I love your contests!
Although the water is beautiful, I'm not really a beach person. I'm drawn to the mountains, and when I think of the most beautiful places I've been, they are all in the mountains.

  12. Beach. I thrive on the scent of salt water! Sand is a pain sometimes, but mountains can be perilous. And buggy.

  13. Talli Roland says:

Oh. I have to say beach! I love the salty air, the water… the sounds…

  14. ARGHHH! Ok, so Star Trek isn't on anymore and lost some creds through bad movies, so I'll accept the landslide vote. I'm glad we came back and womped the sorry little ewoks in the search field, though. ;D

Here, I'm going to be another mutant along with Laurel. I don't like the beach. I tend to get sick if I go swimming and I burn like a marshmallow. Mountains, on the other hand, are usually cooler, shaded, there is still lots of wildlife – maybe more than what's on the beach. Yup. Mountains.

  15. Interesting results on Star Wars and Star Trek. On this one, although I love the beach, I have to go with the mountains. Just spent this past weekend in the mountains and enjoyed so much the beauty, peace, touch of coolness and majesty of them.

  16. I'll pick the beach.

It would be nice to have both, though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. The beach with 75 degree, crystal blue water.

  18. This is fun! Give me the beach! Ah, just the thought of white sand and turquoise water… Mmmmm.
