Let It Snow!

Yesterday we finally got some snow. Kids got out early from school, and my kids didn’t want to come in.
I couldn’t help smiling at the memories of my own childhood. . . . Making snow angels, throwing snow balls, building snowmen, pink frozen noses and cheeks. Then coming in to hot chocolate and toast.
We read “The Snowy Day,” by Ezra Jack Keats, and the afternoon was a perfect little picture of a childhood winter.

Love that picture and the joy it contains! That's what I remember about being a kid in the snow. It was wonderland, cold or not. When I lived in Ohio near a maple syrup farm, we'd pour real maple syrup over fresh snow. Nothing better.
My favorite holiday read is "Star Mother's Youngest Child," which takes place in a very snowy forest and shows the real meaning of giving.
Nice picture! My favourite Christmas stories were dictated by my kids when they were younger. Whichever was their fav was mine!!
How lovely! We had a snow day in Boise a couple weeks ago and it was SO WONDERFUL! I grew up in Utah, so we had a lot of snow most days through the winter. One Christmas we woke to find feet upon feet of new powder. Not a soul was out driving, so my sister, nephew, and I slapped on our cross country skis and slid on down the road to my dad's house. It was the best Christmas and one of the best snow days of my childhood.
I would have to say that Owl Moon is my favorite. Loved the quiet of the snow and the haunting noises of the train and owl. As a southern Californian…we don't get snow, but we visit it in the mountains!

Great picture of the kids playing in the snow. When I was that age, I liked being out in the snow. Now I'd rather stay indoors where it is warm and dry.
The Snowy Day is a great book!
I'm so jealous of all that snow. We don't ever get snow until like January or February. Curse of living in the South, I guess. Oh well.

For a couple of years, I lived in NH when I was a child, with a state forest bordering our hilly yard. We'd sit in our snow saucers and fly down our hill, right into the forest on a packed snow path we had made. And had a blast 🙂
How beautiful! Christmas here involves sunny days and swimsuits, but my favourite book–I read it every year coming up to Christmas–is The Dark Is Rising, by Susan Cooper. It's set in England at Christmas, and gives me my snow fix!
Aside from Christmas (ahhhh) my favorite part of winter is SPRING. hahahaha.
I don't remember ever having much fun in the snow as a kid. *sigh* I feel like I missed something.
It just occurred to me that I spent a good portion of my childhood in Las Vegas, where it really doesn't snow so that could be part of the problem. LOL
I grew up in a huge city in the sub-tropics, so my childhood memories are very different. LOL! I still don't like to be cold, so snow is a problem. But I like to enjoy the beauty of it from my window.

The Long Winter, in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series, comes to mind for a good book to curl up with or read to the kids on these snowy days. My favorite winter memories are of those times when our kids invited their friends over to sled down our hill. One day, years later when all were grown, one young man stopped by. When I went to answer the door, he was just looking back at the hill. "Man," he said, "it doesn't look near as big as it did when I was little!"
That picture is gorgeous! Wow. How fun to have snow just in time for Christmas break. We live in Los Angeles county, so no snow for us.
Great picture! What fun for the kids! I've never liked the cold so didn't enjoy playing in the snow, but I remember how much my kids did, and now my grandkids do!
